Iowa’s snowy caucus on Monday night produced the resounding win that Trump supporters had hoped it would. President Trump swept every county in the state before there was a scramble to award one lone county to Haley—a county she won by one vote.
I felt just a little sorry for Ron DeSantis as he tried to make lemonade out of lemons, declaring with false enthusiasm that Iowa voters who caucused for him had “punched his ticket out of Iowa.” At this point, it is clear that DeSantis made a catastrophic political error running in this cycle. Although some think that DeSantis has a future down the road, I believe his political career is effectively dead, at least as far as presidential aspirations are concerned.
Nikki Haley’s speech at the end of the night has already been mocked for its disproportionate enthusiasm. Despite coming in third, Haley proclaimed that the primary is now a two-man race. In some ways, perhaps she is right. The uniparty is united behind her, and the GOP electorate is split between the MAGA-minded (Trump or DeSantis) and neo-con Nikki. The pressure will only build on DeSantis to bow out and endorse Haley, providing the uniparty Deep State its only possible challenge to Trump’s nomination.
One of Haley’s caucus-night comments, though, stuck out to me in a special way. Haley said that Trump is too focused on the past and on investigations. She, Haley assured us, would focus on the future and uniting the country. It is the same siren song we heard from Peggy Noonan in 2020, when she wistfully wished for the world to go back to normal. It is the same dream of centrist Republicans who want politics to be “civil” again and adhere to polite customs and norms. It is the lie the globalists would like to sell like a sedative drug—vote for the uniparty candidate and you can go back to a better time.
The New York Times ran a piece yesterday titled “America Stares Down a Trump-Biden Repeat in Disbelief and Denial.” In it, the paper reported that “[m]any Democrats can’t fathom that Trump could win another nomination while he is facing 91 felony counts and four criminal trials.” The reality is, no one supporting Trump does so thinking he is good for a single felony charge. Each charge and each trial only confirm Trump’s credentials to lead those Americans still determined to save a once-great nation under assault from within. They support Trump despite and because of the headwinds he faces from his political opponents.
Politics is not getting nastier because there are too many faceless trolls on X/Twitter saying mean things without accountability. Politics is getting nastier because there is a segment of American and international leadership that seeks to enslave the general public. That is not a conspiracy; it is a self-evident truth. Politics is getting nasty, because Trump’s first term revealed that the federal government is far more corrupt than even many politically active people had any idea. His first term began with a soft coup and ended with a stolen election. Politics is getting nasty, because good Americans are starting to wake up, and, even at this late hour, are fighting to maintain the liberty inherited from our forefathers—and the deep state is fighting back. The ugly is just getting started. But the alternative is the death of our nation . . . and slavery.
As I wrote four years ago, we aren’t going back to normal. Embrace the fact that, to save this country, we will have to engage in the political fight for freedom with unrelenting energy. No one is better situated to take on the deep state than Donald Trump. The personal pressure he is under is not baggage that will weigh him down; it is a visceral knowledge of the stakes. Those 91 felony counts and four trials have him fighting for his life, just like the rest of us. As we move toward the next few critical primaries, remind your friends and family to vote for the candidate who will actually fight to save America, because he has nothing left to lose. Vote Donald Trump to the nomination by a resounding margin of victory.
